Net Excess Generation Notes

The capacity of a distributed generation facilities used by residential customers shall not exceed 10 kW.

"Net Metering” means measuring the difference between electricity supplied to a Net Metering Customer from the electric grid and the electricity generated and fed into the electric grid by the Net Metering Customer, using a single bi-directional meter or an additional single direction meter.

Customer Generator shall be responsible for all costs associated with the installation of any Metering Equipment necessary to accommodate the interconnection and net metering. These costs include the cost of the required disconnect switch associated with the interconnection. Tri-County EMC shall purchase, own, install, operate and maintain such Metering Equipment as may be necessary to meter the electrical energy output of the Distributed Generator Facility and the electrical energy consumption at the Point of Interconnection.

If the electricity generated by the Member’s Distributed Generation Facility during the billing period exceeds the electricity consumed by the Net Metering Customer, then the excess net energy shall be purchased by Tri-County EMC at rates as provided under the Purchase Rate section of this Rider

PURCHASE RATE

The rates paid for net energy purchased by Tri-County EMC shall be based upon the EMC’s avoided cost of energy. The avoided cost of energy shall be applied monthly as follows:

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with Tri-County EMC (NC) before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
