Net Excess Generation Notes
  • Excess credits at the end of each month roll over from month to month within the annual true-up period.
  • At the end of each annual true-up period, any remaining kWh credits are paid at the rate set by the CA CPUC, typically between $.02-$.04/kWh.

AC Disconnect Criteria

AC disconnect required in the following situations

  • Line side connection (above main breaker)
  • 3-Phase service
  • Meter-Panel is transformer rated
  • Meter-Panel rated at > 320a

If none of these apply, we do not need an AC disconnect.

Meter Spot Process

Meter Spot Request Step by Step:

  1. Fill out service request form via online , via , or PG&Es building and renovation department can also provide a hard copy of the application.
  2. PG&E will follow up on average 3-5 business days after submitting meter spot request. If for some reason you don’t hear back after the 5th day you can check the application for the name of rep and email/phone for contact info.
  3. You can find the application by selecting your application number in the PG&E dashboard and then select “view application” in the following page.
  4. PG&E will want to verify the SOW for the MPU: 1. Panel size? "Refer to SOW" 2. Added load? "No" 3. Added Generation? "No" 4. Access issues? "No"
  5. After confirming SOW PG&E will send the “OK to serve” email with the number needed to call for scheduling. PG&E rules for upgrades When upgrading an underground service you will always need to upgrade the panel like for like, i.e. (100/100 -> 125/100 or 100/100 Solar Ready) If you proceed with upgrading a 100A panel to a 200A panel, PG&E will send the project to their planning department (3-4 weeks turn around) $1,500 advance towards the cost of trenching and upgrading wires REQUIRED. Depending on how far they need to trench the cost for this can range anywhere from $4,000 on the lowest end to $8,000+_. When upgrading an overhead service, they aren’t as strict as they are with the underground service. More times than not they will approve a 100A to a 200A, however there have been cases where a transformer upgrade has been required and prices on that have been as high as $12,000. When an upgrade requires a panel relocation it’s always best to go with the like for like panel. Like for like panels will avoid the need for relocation.

Site Plan Reqs

All Projects

  • If the project requires an AC disconnect, the disconnect must be within 10' of the utility meter.
  • AC disconnects are not required for every project. Any trenching should only be done if the disconnect is absolutely necessary.

GMA Projects

  • MUST have a 36" clearance from gas meter -- No exceptions or variances will be given.
  • Overhead service not allowed.

Battery Projects

  • If we install batteries in the garage, provide elevation detail showing batteries will be mounted 3' above a finished floor OR provide bollards for protection from vehicles.
  • Interior mounted batteries require heat detectors in accordance with section R314.
  • If heat detectors are needed, provide spec sheets and CA State Fire Marshal listing.
SLD Reqs

GMA Projects

  • Main Service Panel cannot be rated greater than 125A for a GMA tie in.
  • If there is an existing system, new system cannot tie in with a GMA.
  • Battery projects, including non-backup, cannot tie in with a GMA
  • Use #6 Cu in Âľ" LFNC conduit between Disconnect and meter adapter

Existing Systems

  • MUST show model numbers of existing modules/inverters
  • MUST SHOW existing system BOS / AC Disconnect (needs to be included on the title block)
  • Tying existing solar into a GMA is not allowed. For GMA guidelines, See link

Battery Projects

  • Please add the model number verbiage immediately next to the battery
  • Example: (1) Tesla Inc. / AC Powerwall 1092170-XX-Y [240V] [SI1-JUN20]
  • Example: Gateway 1118431-XX-X [CRD-PCS Non-Export]
Install Reqs
  • POI is required to be below the main breaker on the customer load side.
Placards

Existing Systems

  • Remove the old placard and replace it with a new one that includes both the existing and new systems.
  • Ensure components from both systems are shown in the updated design.
  • If existing arrays do not meet current California Energy Commission (CEC) RSD requirements, place a dotted line around non-compliant arrays and include a note stating: "Existing arrays will remain energized upon RSD activation."

AC Disconnect

  • If a project has 2 or more AC disconnects (new or existing), on the placard label each disconnect clearly, e.g., “AC Disconnect 1 of X,” “AC Disconnect 2 of X,” etc.
  • In the placard page, include label for all AC disco "AC Disconnect 1 of X" / " AC Disconnect 2 of X " and etc.
  • If any AC disconnect is more than 10 ft from the PG&E meter, include a site map placard, regardless of the number of disconnects

Normal peak demand is defined as the highest amount of power required from the Distribution System by Producers complete facilities without the influence or use of the energy storage device(s). - The customers solar generating system, including an energy storage system if installed, connected to the GMA, will have no more than a maximum rating of 14.0 kilowatts (kW) at 240 volts (V) and does not produce a total of more than 60 amps]

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with PG&E - Pacific Gas and Electric Company before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
