Net Excess Generation Notes
  • NEM 2.0 program is billed in real-time, meaning your electric usage and solar generation is tracked on an hourly (residential customers) or 15-minute (commercial customers) basis.
  • Any time you are pulling energy from MID's grid you will be charged MID's retail rate.
  • If your solar is over-generating and pushing energy back to MID's grid, you will be compensated at 7.6 cents per kWh.
  • These excess generation credits will show on your monthly MID bill as a negative amount to bring the overall bill down.

System Offset Notes
  • Systems can produce 115% of the customer's current 12-month usage
  • If the customer does not have 12 months of usage, then they must have a minimum of 6 months usage, and we will use the average (no additional 15% will be granted).
  • If the customer does not have the minimum 6 months usage, then it is based off industry standard of 2/watts per square foot of the home (no additional 15% will be granted).
  • For solar addition projects, the customer will need to have a minimum of 6 months solar generation history before we can consider a panel addition project.

Site Plan Reqs

SLD Reqs

All Jobs:

  • 1 Generation meter socket (labeled NEMA 3R and UL-414 listed) between 2 AC Disconnects (shown on the drawing)
  • specify that AC disconnects are knife blade lockable (shown on the drawing)
  • MID requires special placards, see below "MID Placards" PDF and make sure plans adhere to MID labeling requirements.
  • Generation Meter Socket to be wired according to "MID Wiring Guide" in file section below. (Top of meter toward PV, Bottom toward MSP, Neutral is continuous)

Battery Jobs

  • refer to SLD samples attached below: "New Standards..." files.
  • Inverter must only charge battery from PV.

Existing Systems/Add-ons

  • - Only 1 AC Disconnect required and both the existing and new panels run through the existing PV meter socket.
Electric Service Reqs

MID requires placards

Install Reqs

The utility production meter and AC Disco shall be no further than 12' from the main service panel and within line of sight of the main service panel

Any fence/gate that prohibits MID personnel from accessing the solar PV equipment shall be unlocked or if locked will be equipped with an MID keyed lock or MID approved dual locking hasp allowing access to MID equipment and solar PV equipment to MID person

Placards

MID REQUIRES PLACARDS FOR ALL PV COMPONENTS

NEED TO HAVE THE FOLLOWING PLACARDS ON THE PLANS

- CAUTION: PV AND UTILITY POWER

- SOLAR ARRAY AC DISCONNECT

- SOLAR PRODUCTION METER

IF MID EQUIPMENT IS SEPARATED*** - REQUIRED MID PV DEVICES ARE LOCATED IN THE BACK YARDON OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE HOUSE

MID NOW REQUIRES TO SHOW THE FENCE LINE AND LOCKED GATE ON THE PLACARD.

Need all placards as well as placard for solar meter.

Rapid Shutdown Placard needs to be red. Please see Placard sample.

Site placard must call out "CAUTION: MULTIPLE SOURCES OF POWER"

Compiled from public records, 2026. Tariffs and interconnection rules change; verify with MID - Modesto Irrigation District before you rely on this. The useful move: if an installer says you need a main panel upgrade, ask how these tap and interconnection policies were considered first.
