This AHJ follows County of Los Angeles (ESS Requirements) (CA).
Please follow this link to County of Los Angeles (ESS Requirements) (CA)
ESS disconnect required within 6ft of MSP on same wall and not blocked by walls/gates/etc
If combining batteries need ESS disco/discos before the combiner panel
For Tesla Gateways:
- Add note to the single line diagram: “At the gateway, remove the Neutral-Ground Bond Strap.”
- Identify that the Hold Down Bar kit will be used for the internal load center of the Gateway 2 unit. This will satisfy the requirements of Section 408.36(D).
- Separate ESS Disconnect Required
- ESS Disconnect
- ESS Elevation Detail Required
- Yes - with dimensions

BUS CERTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN THIS AHJ For multi inverter systems, specify which string each module is mapped to on plot plan. Refer to the multi inverter example below For ballast mount projects use PZSE (contact ) for structural engineering For MPUs, refer to the LA County MPU documents below ESS JOBS WILL NOW REQUIRE FIRE APPROVAL. REQUIREMENTS UPLOADED AS PDFs. A CHECKLIST IS ALSO REQUIRED.
For ground mounted PV arrays or PV arrays on detached structures, in addition to the equipment grounding conductor run with the PV system conductors, a grounding conductor shall be provided from the PV array to a grounding electrode system established at that ground mount or detached structure. (EX: #6 GEC to 2 ground rods, min 6’ apart located at the array structure) 690.47(A) Buildings or Structures Supporting a PV Array. A building or structure supporting a PV array shall have a grounding electrode system installed in accordance with Part III of Article 250. PV array equipment grounding conductors shall be connected a grounding electrode system in accordance with Part VII of Article 250. This connection shall be in addition to any other equipment grounding conductor requirements in 690.43(C). The PV array equipment grounding conductors shall be sized in accordance with 690.45.
- Site
All Jobs
All buildings on property are to be properly labeled and called out as habitable or non-habitable.
Existing Systems: Show existing system size, new system size, and total system size.
- Site Notes
All Jobs [ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LABELED, LISTED, OR CERTIFIED BY A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED TESTING LABORATORY ACCREDITED BY THE UNITED STATES OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY HEALTH ADMINISTRATION // NEW SERVICE PANEL TO REPLACE EXISTING AT SAME LOCATION]
- Roof Plan
For systems with multiple strings/inverters, the plans shall clearly identify how all modules are mapped to each string and/or inverter input
For ballasted systems:
Section 110.13 requires all electrical equipment to be firmly secured, with a California Code exception for roof mounted PV systems provided that the wiring and interconnections are designed to accommodate for maximum system displacement. The electrical engineer is required to work with the civil/structural engineer for this project to determine the maximum physical displacement and to propose a method to accommodate such movement. This information shall be provided on the plans.
- Attachment Detail
Distance from top of module to roof is to be called out
- Electrical Diagram
FOR ALL PROJECTS If using sum of all breakers 705.12(B)(3)(3), specify a note on plans, include a list of all breakers in the main panel on the line digaram
FOR MPU PROJECTS If ground rods, comply with the following: 250.53(A)(2) & (3) Resistance of Electrodes: For the ground rod specified on the single line diagram, indicate that there shall be two ground rods separated by six or more feet Identify if the main panel is fed via an overhead drop or underground feed. If overhead, provide the size of the service entrance conductors AND ground size (GEC) Identify GEC size to Table 250.66 If solar ready MPU: Show model number for solar ready service panels
FOR HOT BUS PROJECTS If MSP is a hot bus and has 6 or less breakers, provide a panel schedule identifying all the breakers FOR GMA PROJECTS The wire from the inverter to the AC disconnect must also be sized to #6 Per SCE requirements, specify the distance from the GMA to the fused disconnect as 2-3' maximum Indicate that equipment grounding electrode conductor (EGC) shall be in separate conduit. The EGC is not installed in the liquid-tight flexible conduit from the AC disconnect to the GMA GMA requires GEC to be ran in its own conduit to MSP
